Lifeguard Pre-course Prep

If you want to start your lifeguard career, but need help developing the swimming skills and endurance needed to pass the lifeguard course prerequisites, then this is the class for you. In a small group or individual setting, each participant will be evaluated and instructed on stroke techniques, breathing techniques and endurance training specific to passing all of the entry requirements for their class.

When is the class offered? 
This class is offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:00pm (Note: if only one participant is registered, the instructor will only conduct a half hour session) 

What are the lifeguard prerequisites that I will be working on?

  • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing (can use freestyle or breastroke, no sidestroke or backstroke)
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards
    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object
    • Surface and swim 20 yards on back with both hands holding the object during entire return swim
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

What do I need to bring to class?
You will need to bring a swimsuit and a pair of goggles. Towels are available at the center for usage.

What is the cost of the classes and how many do I need to attend?
The cost is $20 per class, and the number of classes you need varies based on skill level.
